Rio Attractions

Rio de Janeiro is considered to be a magnetic lure for its travelers. Escaping to Rio is a travel chimera. The city is passionate, beautiful and vivacious. It’s the lust for life on behalf of the inhabitants, which makes the city so vibrant. Rio de Janeiro is dipped in a prosperous and divergent cultural history; hundreds of spectacular attractions in Rio de Janeiro await the visitors. With the lush Amazon rainforest, beautiful coastline and the exciting neighborhoods to explore, this city has so much to offer. The event that attracts the travelers most is the Carnival of Rio.

Why Rio's Carnival Rules

The virtues of Carnival in Salvador and other cities in Brazil have been promoted by many people, but the real accord is Rio’s carnival. Ultimately the whole thing started from here only. It was in Rio where the first school of Samba arrived; it was here where the parades happened for the first time. For every Carnival, Brazil comes to a halt to see the parades in Rio de Janeiro. The carnivals are supposed to happen in the month of February or March. Those four days (Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday) prove to be the most glamorous days as the Brazilians think only of samba, beer and loads of fun. Undoubtedly the city looks charismatic during those days.

Other alluring Rio attractions:

Amsterdam Sauer Museum

A Brazilian gemstone dealer, Amsterdam Sauer, moved from France and ended up in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s. He opened the second largest store for gemstones in Brazil. The museum takes its name from the city in the Netherlands which was the biggest importer of diamonds and other gemstones in Europe during the last century. Being in the heart of the city the museum shows off many of Sauer's original discovery when he worked as a miner, gemologist, geologist, and finally as a jeweler.

Botanical Garden

It is one of the great tropical arboretums of the world. It was founded in 1808 by John, prince regent of the United Kingdom. It is generally silent on weekdays and full of life with music and families on weekends, the Jardim Botanico grows over 5000 plant varieties, including Amazonian originals and Jurassic-sized water lilies.

Christ the Redeemer

It is the world’s best and most visited monument. Here the statue of Christ can be seen in his arms wide opened. The left arm points to the Rio de Janeiro's north zone, the right to the south zone, while the saintly perch offers spectacular views of Ipanema, the Maracana soccer stadium and the Serra do Órgãos mountain range.

Maracaná Stadium

Visit to Rio de Janeiro becomes incomplete, if one doesn’t visit the Maracana stadium. Once it used to be the world’s greatest playground for world famous soccer stars such as Ronaldo, Romario, Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, Carlos Alberto, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, and many more. It’s truly a legendary place for all football lovers.

Sugar Loaf

The Sugar Loaf is one of Rio’s most famous landmarks and it is actually a conglomerate that includes two hills connected by cable cars. The hills with the cable car have become a trademark of the city. It’s like a green, unearthly peak rising over Rio de Janeiro. Sugar Loaf is an iconic turf for a comprehensive view of Rio de Janeiro, from Copacabana beach to Corcovado Mountain, with an added view of an equatorial Rio de Janeiro sunset.
